Children with Down Syndrome do not have an equal access to education like other children. This is twofold. Firstly, due to the fact that many parents/caregivers do not see the need of enrolling children in schools as they are regarded to be incapable to learn. Secondly, the learning environment is not friendly due to the fact that many schools do not have user friendly infrastructure that would accommodate children with Down Syndrome. We have engaged Government through signing of Memorandum of Understanding with the Ministry of Health, Community Development, Gender, Elderly & Children (MoHCDGEC). We wish to work together to implement activities which are addressing Health, Social & Community related issues to people with Down syndrome. In addition to the above, we are in the process of signing an MoU with Ministry of Education, Science, Technology and Vocational Training. The MoU is particularly aiming at finding a way on how we can work together in an inclusive education at all levels to people with disabilities where people with Down Syndrome form a part of it. We also wish to explore more opportunities available in the education system in Vocational Training and Life Skills.
