Most people with Down Syndrome and their families are poverty stricken due to the fact they spend much of their time taking care of their children/ people with Down Syndrome as there are no Institutional Care and support systems where people with Down Syndrome can be helped. In addition to the above, people with Down Syndrome do not have an opportunity to be employed as they are regarded to have no qualifications although they can be good at manual work. This results in the high dependency level of people with Down syndrome to their parents/ caregivers to earn a living. This worsens if the parents or caregivers dies and we work to ensure that the people with down syndrome can get skills to improve their employability.
